“I had upper eyelid blepharoplasty performed by Dr. Kyle Cox of Tomoka Eye Care, on December 14, 2018. The entire experience, from before surgery, during surgery, and after surgery was a very positive experience. The procedure was done at Tomoka Surgery Center, and all of the personnel there, from the person that greeted me when I walked through the front door that morning, to the nurses before, during the procedure, and during recovery were kind and supportive and put me at ease. The anesthesiologist was wonderful, as well. She met with me before surgery, explained everything she would be doing and answered all of my questions. During the procedure, I was put under just long enough for the numbing injections around my eyes to be administered, then I was woken up for the rest of the procedure. Beforehand, I was very nervous about being awake during the procedure, however, I found it wasn’t a problem at all. During the procedure, music played in the background which was nice, and Dr. Cox spoke calmly and reassuringly to me during the procedure. I felt absolutely no pain or discomfort during the procedure. Beforehand, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to hold my eyelids still during the surgery, but I found that wasn’t an issue at all. The procedure itself seemed to go by quicker than I anticipated, and in no time at all they were wheeling me back into the recovery area, moving me to a semi-sitting position and handing me a mirror. Wow! I could immediately see an amazing improvement! They brought my husband back and thoroughly went over discharge instructions and offered me juice and a snack. Dr. Cox came in and checked on me and answered any questions I had. I then got dressed and my husband brought the car around to the door nearest the recovery area. A nurse helped me out to the car and fastened a cold ice pack around my eyes for the trip home. (No need to purchase ice packs beforehand, they give you several and a nice terry cloth wrap that holds the ice packs and fastens in the back.) We were back home before lunch! I took it easy the rest of the day and was diligent about applying ice packs to my eyes per the discharge instructions. I had no eyelid pain whatsoever. I did find I had to limit tv/internet quite a bit because my eyes would get dry feeling and sting (the eyeballs, not the eyelids). I slept in a reclining position for the first few days to help with swelling. I found swelling and bruising to be pretty minimal. After the first week, I resumed my normal activities. I did find my eyes would become dry throughout the day, so I kept eye drops with me and used them several times a day. By the second week, most of the swelling had diminished and I only had just a small amount of bruising left under my eyes which I could very easily hide with concealer. The incisions were located in the eyelid crease, so when my eyes were open, you really couldn’t see them except for a small amount on the outer part of the eyelid. My children were worried that after the procedure I wouldn’t look like “mom”, however, they all say that isn’t the case at all and that I look great. I am so very happy that I was able to have this procedure. Not only do my eyes look better, but I am finding that my peripheral vision is better as well and I am no longer having to raise my eyebrows to “pull” my heavy eyelids up and out of the way. Dr. Kyle Cox is wonderful – from her lovely bedside manner to her superb expertise and skill, and I’ve found the entire staff at Tomoka Eye Care to be excellent. I would encourage anyone considering having blepharoplasty surgery with Dr. Cox to go for it. You will be so glad you did.”
